On July 4 2012, Dave “Hawk” Hawkins was doing some yard work when he noticed smoke and flames in his home. He realized that his dogs Mercedes and her pup Duke were inside so he ran in to save them. Hawk got the dogs out of the house, but Mercedes died from smoke inhalation on the way to the vet. For his troubles, he was badly burned and the house itself was completely destroyed along with all of his belongings. Unfortunately he did not have any insurance. Dave is in hospital now and expecting to spend a few more weeks recovering. In the meantime his employer, Sailor Hagar’s Brew Pub, is holding a fundraising event on August 4, 2012 to help him get his life back together. Here are the details:
A fundraiser and silent auction will be held during the evening of Saturday, Aug. 4 at Sailor Hagar’s Brew Pub from 5 to 9 p.m. in North Vancouver (86 Semisch Avenue, a couple blocks from the SeaBus). You can buy advance tickets that includes a burger platter and beer for $20.
Alternatively you can come after 9pm when a band will be playing and admission is $5 or more by donation.
